Are you eligible?
Three quick questions. No details stored, no account needed.
Are you aged sixteen or over?
Are you employed, or self-employed (or about to start)?
Do you have a disability, long-term health condition, or are you neurodivergent (or suspected to be)?
Do you need a diagnosis?
No. You do not need a formal, labelled diagnosis to apply for or receive support.
The DWP assesses eligibility based on the functional impact and barriers you face in your job — due to a physical disability, learning difficulty, mental health condition, or neurodivergence — rather than requiring a specific medical label.
Focus on impact. Your application and workplace assessment centre on how your condition affects your day-to-day work, and what tools, coaching or adaptations you need to do your job.
Mental health support without medical records. For mental health support (such as coping strategies for anxiety, depression or stress), you can access specialist partners like Able Futures or Maximus directly through the scheme — with no medical documentation.
Describe your barriers. Be ready to name specific ones — for example, difficulty processing written text, sensory overload in an open-plan office, or trouble with time management.
Evidence can help, but is not required. A diagnostic report, a GP letter outlining your symptoms, or an occupational health report can speed up the assessment and prevent disputes. For higher-cost support — such as travel funding to get to work — the DWP is more likely to request formal evidence.
Core eligibility
- • Aged sixteen or over.
- • Live and work in England, Scotland, or Wales.
- • In paid employment, self-employed, or about to start a role or work trial within the next twelve weeks.
- • A condition that meets, or is suspected to meet, the Equality Act 2010 definition of disability — one lasting, or expected to last, twelve months or more.
