The Steady Signal

A shared signal between a child and the people who care about them. One child. Three people. One signal.

Why This Exists

Sometimes a child starts to feel that school is too much — and it can build quietly before anyone notices. The Steady Signal helps the child share where they are, so the people who care about them can respond early. Before it becomes too big. Before school starts to feel impossible.

This is for emotionally based school avoidance — catching the early signs together.

Three People, One Signal

The Child

Signals where they are today. Their voice, their pace.

Parent, Carer, or Guardian

Sees the same signal. Can respond early at home.

Teacher or Support Person

Sees the same signal. Can adjust the school day.

Sam is at the centre. Everyone sees the same gentle signal.

Sam's Signal Today

Sam chooses. Everyone else sees.

Gentle Responses

Small, early things that help — before the signal becomes a pattern. One at a time.

Soften the morning

A calmer start can make a big difference. Could the morning routine be a little gentler tomorrow?

When: Signal has been wobbly for two mornings.

A quiet check-in

Lighten the load

One suggestion at a time. No scores. No comparisons. No pressure.

The Promise

  • The child's signal is shared only with the people they trust — their parent, carer, or guardian and their teacher or support person.
  • No one else can see it. No outside systems. No data leaving the circle.
  • The child can change their signal or stop at any time. It is always their choice.
  • This is a signal, not a record. It exists to help people respond with care — not to track or judge.
